SVL Board of DirectorsJoAnne Romero: Treasurer

I discovered Spring Valley Lake in 1970, when my parents bought a lot to build their retirement home on. In those days, the high desert seemed remote and unexciting, but I grew to love Spring Valley Lake’s pristine beauty, amenities, and rural lifestyle. In 1983, we built a home in SVL, and moved our family and careers “up the hill.” What a great place to live and raise our two kids! We have fond memories of days at the lake, Easter egg hunts, 4th of July fireworks, picnics, parades, little league, and golf.
My 34 years as a secondary school teacher and administrator began in 1975; the last 25 years were with Hesperia Unified School District. My career allowed me to develop as a leader and utilize collaboration, organization, and people skills. I also have experience with budgeting, grant writing, contract negotiations, personnel, and working with law enforcement.
Now retired, I am able to give back to my community. I attend SVL board meetings, The Coffee Break Club, community fitness classes, and am a member of the SVL Community Service District Exploratory Committee. I’ve assisted with many SVL events and celebrations, and I helped spearhead the recent opposition to the water/sewer rate increases in SVL.
I’ve seen SVL grow from dirt roads, few houses, and a freshly excavated empty lake, to a thriving community. But growth and time bring challenges: aging infrastructure; parks, equestrian facilities and a man-made lake needing rehabilitation; changing demographics; crime; traffic concerns; and the trend toward local autonomy over county control. My goal is to deal with these matters pro-actively and responsibly. If elected to the SVLA Board of Directors, I will work with the Board, Association management and staff, and the community, to address the challenges as well as the everyday issues. It is my objective to help ensure that communication and fiscal accountability are underpinned to everything we do as a homeowner association and board of directors.
You can count on me to work diligently for SVL and its citizens. I would be honored to receive your vote for Board of Directors.
